South Kitsap Fire and Rescue Paramedics responded to a “CPR in progress” call in mid-April. This type of 911 call means that a community member is performing CPR on someone in need.

Two construction workers in the area saw a person laying in a back yard and not moving. They went to investigate, and found the person not breathing. They called 911 and were instructed how to perform CPR over the phone. These brave individuals performed CPR non-stop on the patient until Paramedics could arrive and take over.

Paramedics had to use a defibrillator three times to shock the patient’s heart and stabilize their blood pressure before transporting to a local hospital. A few days later, the patient was sitting up and ordering breakfast from the hospital menu.

Moral of the story? Don’t be afraid to get involved. COVID may prevent us from teaching or taking a CPR class, but there are others ways you can cause a positive outcome!
