Hiring Process

Step 1

Application & Initial Testing

Applicants must complete the employment application. Depending on the position, additional testing or assessments may be required. For suppression positions, public safety testing, written examination and CPAT are required.

Qualified applicants will be notified of next steps.

Step 2

Video Interview (If Applicable)

For positions that require it, qualified applicants will receive an email invitation to complete a video interview through Spark Hire. Additional online testing may also occur during this stage.

Step 3

In-person Interview Process

Applicants who advance may be invited to participate in one or more interviews, which may include:

  • Panel interviews
  • Chief’s or leadership interviews (as applicable)

Step 4

Conditional Offer

Candidates selected to move forward will receive a conditional offer of employment.

Step 5

Background & Pre-Employment Screening

Candidates who accept a conditional offer must successfully complete required background checks and pre-employment screening. Note that requirements vary based on position and department needs. This may include:

  • Background investigation and/or criminal history review
  • Driving record review
  • Medical examination*
  • Psychological evaluation*
  • Physical evaluation
  • Background investigation*
  • Gear fitting*
  •

Step 6

Formal Offer & Start Date

Applicants who successfully complete all conditional requirements will receive a formal offer of employment and be scheduled for their official start date. In applying for a suppression position, this will also include any required academy or training dates.
