Q: American Heart Association Heartasver Total® CPR AED First AID Training Course

The Heartsaver Total CPR AED First AID Course is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs an OSHA-compliant course completion card for CPR training—or anyone who simply wants to be ready to respond in an emergency. There is no age limitation, however younger individuals may struggle to physically perform CPR effectively. Therefore, we recommend this course for ages 15 and older. We encourage people under 15 to take our Hands-Only CPR course or consider our Safe Sitter course. What does this course teach? The BLS Provider Course is designed for healthcare professionals and trained first responders who provide care to patients in a wide variety of settings, as well as individuals enrolled in a healthcare training program. Q: Baby Basics

Cost: Free Duration: 2 Hours on a Friday, 30-minute car seat inspection the following Friday When: Quarterly Class Type: In-person Class Details: This 2-hour Basics class provides essential education for new and expecting parents and caregivers on key infant safety topics. Participants will learn the fundamentals of infant CPR* and infant choking relief, along with best practices for safe sleeping habits to help reduce the risk of sleep-related injuries. The class also covers prenatal vehicle safety, including important considerations for traveling safely during pregnancy, as well as child passenger safety, with guidance on proper car seat selection, installation, and use to help keep infants and young children protected on the road. *Please note: Infant CPR instruction is for educational purposes and does not include CPR certification. Following the Basics class, participants will return the following Friday for a 30-minute one-on-one car seat check with a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST).

Q: Hands-Only CPR

Cost: Free Duration: approx. 30 min - 1 hour When: Monthly Class Type: In-person Class Details: Learn how to respond confidently in a cardiac emergency. This Hands-Only CPR class teaches the essentials: recognizing cardiac arrest, calling 911, and giving effective chest compressions. No prior experience needed—just a commitment to keeping our community safe. If you would like to register more than 5 people please email us at info@skfr.org to schedule an additional class.

Safe Sitter® Essentials

Cost: FREE
Duration: approx. 6 hours
When: Summer Quarter (June - August)
Class Type: In-person only
Max. Registration: 12

Class Options: This course is offered as a 1-day (6 hrs) or 2-day course (3 hrs/day) based on availability

Class Details: Safe Sitter® is a nationally recognized program that prepares young teens (typically ages 11–14) to stay home alone, care for younger siblings, or begin babysitting with confidence. This hands-on course teaches the critical safety skills, leadership habits, and decision-making tools that every young caregiver needs.

Young Teen Participants Learn:

Personal safety and how to stay calm in unexpected situations
Child care basics and age-appropriate behavior management
How to screen and accept safe job requests
What to do in common household emergencies
Basic First aid and choking rescue skills
Professional work habits like reliability, communication, and preparedness

Whether or not they choose to babysit, graduates leave with lifelong skills in responsibility, planning, and leadership. Many have even used their training to respond effectively in real emergencies. This course supports both teens and parents, helping families decide when a young teen is ready for increased responsibility and how to encourage safety, communication, and good judgment at home and in the community.

While You Wait for Class: While waiting for a Safe Sitter® Essentials class, young teens can learn safe sitting tips for free at their own pace online through the Babysitter Boss by Safe Sitter® YouTube Channel.
