At South Kitsap Fire and Rescue, our priority is keeping our community informed, prepared, and safe. Our free Community Education Classes are open to everyone and are designed to make health & fire safety educational learning opportunities available and accessible to all.
Community Education Classes are offered throughout the year and may be hosted online or in-person in public spaces such as our local libraries.
Community Education Class Offerings
Adult Hands-Only CPR (Ages 19 +)
Cost: Free Duration: approx. 30 min - 1 hour When: Twice a year Class Type: In-person
Class Details: Learn how to respond confidently in a cardiac emergency. This Adult Hands-Only CPR class teaches ages 19+ the essentials: recognizing cardiac arrest, calling 911, and giving effective chest compressions. No prior experience needed—just a commitment to keeping our community safe.
Youth Hands-Only CPR (Ages 12 to 18)
Cost: Free Duration: approx. 30 min When: Spring Break and Summer Quarter Class Type: In-person
Class Details: This Youth Hands-Only CPR class teaches ages 12 to 18 how to recognize cardiac arrest, call 911, and provide strong, effective chest compressions. Led by an SKFR instructor, this beginner-friendly session builds confidence and empowers young people to help keep their community safe.
At-Home Fire Safety & Escape Planning
Cost: Free Duration: approx. 1 - 1.5 hour When: Quarterly or upon request Class Type: In-person
Class Details: Learn how to prevent home fires and protect your family through practical fire safety planning. This class covers basic fire science, common causes of fire at home, effective escape planning, and essential safety products to keep you prepared.
Emergency Preparedness
Cost: Free Duration: approx. 1 - 1.5 hours When: Quarterly or upon request Class Type: Online
Class Details: Disasters can happen anytime—being prepared makes all the difference. This class explores potential hazards in Kitsap County and guides you through building a complete emergency supply kit, creating a portable “go-bag,” and developing an effective family or household emergency plan.
Business Fire Safety
Cost: Free Duration: approx. 1 hour When: Throughout the year Class Type: Online
Class Details: Protecting your workplace starts with awareness and prevention. This class reviews the leading causes of business fires, the purpose and history of fire codes, and the importance of inspections. Learn about the most common fire code deficiencies and how businesses can partner with SKFR to create a safer, more resilient community.
Fall Prevention & Fire Safety for Older Adults
Cost: Free Duration: approx. 1 - 1.5 hours When: Offered to Senior Care Living Homes & Facilities Upon Request Class Type: In-person
Class Details: This class is designed to help older adults feel confident and prepared to prevent falls. Participants will learn about national and Washington State fall statistics, 5 things to prepare for reducing fall risk, how to prevent falls, and basic exercises to reduce fall risk alongside basic fire safety at-home
Wildland Fire Prevention
Cost: Free Duration: 2 - 2.5 hours (1 class) or 40 - 45 min. (3 class sessions) When: Spring and Summer Quarter or Upon Request for organizations, groups, or neighborhoods Class Type: Online or in-person
Class Details: Stay prepared during the wildfire season with SKFR’s three-part series focused on protecting homes and neighborhoods. Sessions cover practical steps for home hardening, creating defensible space using Firewise program principles, and developing clear communication and evacuation plans. This class is offered in one-sitting for about 2 – 2.5 hours or can be offered as 3 separate 45 min. class lesson series.
Class Details: This class provides practical training on identifying opioid overdoses and administering Narcan, an emergency treatment for opioid overdose. Participants learn the warning signs, how to respond safely, and what steps to take after giving Narcan.
