[Port Orchard, Wash.] -On Tuesday April 29, 2025, South Kitsap Fire and Rescue will be conducting training operations for a video production about “Energy Focused Overhaul” at residential structure fires. SKFR, Kitsap County Fire Training Consortium and the International Association of Firefighters are involved in this production.
Energy Focused Overhaul is a relatively new concept within the fire service. With the growing trend of electric vehicles, lithium-ion batteries, and solar panels located in residential and commercial occupancies, it is crucial that firefighters learn techniques to find hidden sources. Hidden or smoldering electrical energy devices can pose challenges for firefighters as they may continue to have thermal runaway which can cause reignition.
The training will be located off SE Olympiad Drive between the hours of 0900-1200. There might be a possibility of smoke in the area. This smoke is machine generated and should not be cause for concern. There will be emergency vehicles in the area for the production.
