South Kitsap Fire and Rescue has joined in the growing number of resources being sent to Southern California to assist in the devastating wildfires. We have sent and engine with four (4) wildland qualified firefighters to assist in the efforts. They departed our area at 0400 and will be traveling straight through until they reach their destination. We are keeping those impacted by this in our thoughts.
With colder months coming South Kitsap Fire & Rescue would like to remind everyone the importance of working carbon monoxide alarms. In 2023, South Kitsap Fire and Rescue responded to 57 emergency calls out of our 13,147 calls for carbon monoxide alarm activation. CO is a colorless, odorless gas and can only be detected with a working CO detector. These devices should be on every level of your home and outside sleeping areas. Always read the manufactures instructions when placing any alarm around your home for proper placement, how they work, and when they should be replaced. Sounds of safety:1. A CO alarms, a full alarm gives 4- beeps then a pause and repeats this pattern.2. Smoke alarms, a full alarm gives 3-beeps then a pause and repeats this pattern.3. A chirp every 30-45 seconds means your battery needs changed (for 10-year alarms, it is time to replace the whole unit) #portorchardwashington #skfrcares #coalarms
