At approximately 12:50 p.m., crews responded to a rapidly spreading brush fire in the 3900 block of Banner Road SE. The incident was initially dispatched as a residential structure fire due to the fire’s close proximity to nearby buildings. Thanks to a quick response, firefighters were able to contain the fire primarily to grass and brush, preventing it from spreading to the structures. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. As summer conditions continue to dry out grass and vegetation, it doesn’t take much for a fire to start or spread. Even a small spark can quickly become a fast-moving brush fire. If you see smoke or a vegetation fire, call 911 right away. Early reporting gives firefighters the best chance to stop a small fire before it becomes a much bigger one. UPDATE: after investigation, the cause was likely due to a legal campfire that had not been extinguished completely. This serves as a reminder to fully soak campfires and legal burns as well as surrounding areas when you are done. #skfr #skfrcares #brushfire
