South Kitsap Fire and Rescue (SKFR) volunteers are an essential part of our mission to serve and protect the community. After all, our organization was founded by volunteers for our South Kitsap community. Our volunteer program runs separately under the South Kitsap Fire and Rescue Association (SKFRA). Whether you’re looking to respond to emergency calls, support community events, fundraisers or h help with fire prevention and safety outreach, there’s a volunteer role that fits a wide range of interests and skills.
Suppression Volunteers
Suppression volunteers are the local heroes who have the drive to go through the training which allows them to work side by side with the career firefighters of the District on any fire scene.
Also support services volunteers are toned to respond to a fire. Volunteers are primarily assigned to the air unit and water tenders. The air unit is designed to refill the self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) bottles for the suppression personnel. Volunteer tender operators are summoned to the call if the area is known to have no or insufficient hydrant coverage.
Chaplain Program
The chaplain program provides personal assistance to the individuals experiencing the tragedy. They provide personal support and avenues for farther assistance if needed. Donations can be given to the chaplaincy program at the district office.
Community Volunteers
Volunteer functions go beyond the scope of responding to fire and medical emergencies though. Community volunteers are involved in prevention as well. The Home Safety team is a prime example. They provide free home inspections and smoke detectors to residents within SKFR’s response area.
Become a Volunteer
Our volunteers are community members who want to make a difference, aspiring fire service professionals student seeking experience, and individuals who enjoy community engagement and support roles. We value every volunteer’s contribution.
